Bakers Farms is a family run business who’s mission is to produce high quality milk as efficiently as possible, whilst balancing the environmental impacts of Dairy production.

Technicals

  • Our Pedigree Holstein herd was established in 1932

    We have a Whole herd £PLI of 232, and a calf crop £PLI of 509

    Our focus is on milk solids production and lifespan

  • We can milk 400 cows an hour on an 80 point external rotary with 2 Peacock robotic arms for Pre and Post spray

    Cows are milked 3 times a day with Boumatic milking equipment and Milkrite vented liners

  • Our milk is an average 4.1% Butterfat, 3.55% Protein

    We have a Bactoscan of 29 and an SCC 128

  • Ration consists of 55% homegrown forage.

    This is 65% Maize Silage, 35% Grass Silage.

    We also grow 35% of concentrates used

We have a heard size of around 2500 milking cows which has rapidly increased over the last few years. We strive to ensure that the welfare our our cows is as good as it can be. We feed them the best quality feeds, enrichments and supply them with the best care that we can.

Milk Production and Quality

Here at bakers farm’s We produce approximately 12million litres of milk per year. We strive to create the best quality milk that we can with Arla’s support.

Our current Milk Quality Results are averaging at:

Butterfat : 4.6%

Proteins : 3.4%

We are proud to have been operating as a dairy farm for nearly 60 years with the help from many individuals along the way.

Feed and Nutrition

Our Girls are fed the highest quality and best variation of feed. With the hard work from our Forage Team, we currently grow 60% of our own feed, this way we can monitor and know exactly what we are feeding our cows as a way to prioritise their health, wellbeing and milk production.

Our cows get fed 3 times a day which currently includes a mix of:

  • Rape Meal

  • Ground Maize

  • Grass Silage

  • Processed Bread

  • Wheat

  • Molasses

  • A variety of Minerals

Here at Bakers farm’s we go above and beyond to ensure we are feeding the best quality feed we can.

Did you know that cows enjoy fruit and vegetables too? Until recently we included Citrus peels in our feed mix (oranges!)

Products

We are proud that we supply our milk to Arla. Milk produced by our cows gets made into a variety of different dairy products;

  • Milk - Arla Cravendale

  • Butter - Anchor

  • Cheeses

  • Yogurts

And many more products ! Arla is the largest supplier of fresh milk and cream in the United Kingdom, producing over 2.2 billion litres of milk per year. It produces two premium milk brands: Cravendale filtered milk, which undergoes a filtration process to remove bacteria before pasteurization; and Lactofree milk, from which lactose is removed, making it suitable for most lactose intolerant people.
